Dixons data breach knocks confidence

Shares in the electricals retailer fell again, this time on news of a widespread data breach

Dixons Carphone (DC.) has revealed a huge data breach, which has compromised details of nearly 6m customers’ payment cards. The group has launched an investigation, but has already concluded there’s no evidence of any fraudulent use of this data - most of which was protected by chip and pin.

Separately, the investigation also found 1.2m records containing non-financial personal data, such as name, address or email address, were also accessed, although there’s no evidence of fraud on this front, either.
