Despite rising optimism at Clarkson (CNK), executive director Peter Anker and his wife have together sold 72,941 shares at 2,750p each. This comes hot on the heels of a 17,500 share disposal at 2,635p by the pair in July, which was put down to “personal reasons” at the time.

The company’s first-half performance was hit by tough shipping and offshore capital markets, a lull in sale and purchase broking and a weaker US dollar – not to mention fears of a US trade war. But bosses expect more revenue will soon flow through from deals signed in the second quarter. Indicators such as the The Baltic Dry Index (a measure of activity in the dry cargo market) and the company’s own ClarkSea Index (a measure of overall earnings in the shipping market) have also improved.
Following the sale, Mr Anker now holds just 0.53 per cent of Clarkson’s issued share capital. Non-executive director Birger Nergaard sold 58,353 shares at 2,750p, leaving him with a 0.49 per cent stake.
