There is a generation of Brits who become misty-eyed at the mention of Worms, Paradroid or Elite – the games which allowed 80s teens to march troops into battle, navigate robot minefields or negotiate with intergalactic ship captains. Britain has always punched well above its weight when it comes to video game development. But after many of the publishers were snapped up by foreign companies in the late 1990s, public investment opportunities have been few and far between.
