Simon Thompson updates Bargain Shares, opting out of NHS pension, Interserve deleveraging & more

In Simon Thompson's column today, he assesses news from no fewer than four constituents of his 2019 Bargain Shares Portfolio and has some very positive news to report back. He also notes that the laggard in his market beating 2016 portfolio has disappointed, and ponders whether it's best to call time on the holding given that anticipated profit recovery that the original investment was based on is proving elusive.

This week’s portfolio clinic features a reader who wants to retire early and is considering leaving his NHS pension scheme in favour of investment accounts with more flexible access. Our experts tell him why he should not underestimate the significant benefits of his NHS pension, and why he needs to invest in assets other than UK equity funds.

Meanwhile, Interserve is pitching to investors to approve a deleveraging programme and prevent a default. But even if the deleveraging plan is approved, Interserve could still be forced to delist. Tom Dines has the latest.
