January 29, 2018

Relx (RELX) – the print publisher turned information and data giant – has bought ThreatMetrix, a Californian digital identity specialist, for £580m. The newly-acquired company, which allows corporations and financial institutions to quickly confirm the digital identity of their customers online, adds further weight to Relx’s risk and business analytics division.

Relx has successfully reduced its reliance on business and consumer print publications by bulking up its portfolio of tools that detect risks such as financial and insurance fraud. In the last decade, it has spent roughly £300m a year on bolt-on acquisitions which have added on average 5 per cent underlying organic annual revenue growth.
