Bloomsbury upgrades expectations

Strong January trading means revenue and profits are ahead of management guidance

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge chose a good date (28 December) to launch his latest clean eating book, Lose Weight for Good. It was the UK's best-selling book ever for the first week of January – as Brits strived to shed their Christmas pounds – and has topped the bestseller list for four weeks since then.

The book’s publisher, Bloomsbury Publishing (BMY), has felt the benefits. Revenues and profits in the year to February 2018 are now due to come in ahead of previous expectations. Broker Numis has upgraded 2018 pre-tax profit and earnings forecasts by 8 per cent to £13m and 13.9p – 8 per cent and 2 per cent up on the last financial year.
