Investors still hanging on to shares in Trinity Mirror (TNI) will look for more details on the group’s £127m deal to buy the Express publications when it reports results next week. The acquisition marks one of the biggest switch-ups in newspaper ownership in more than a decade. It’s not a small sum – the deal price comprises an initial cash payment of £42.7m, deferred cash payments of £59m to be paid between 2020 and 2023, and £20m-worth of new Trinity Mirror shares.

It will be interesting to note if there’s any significant change in accounting treatment when Rolls-Royce (RR.) releases its full-year figures on 7 March. We’ve previously noted that the introduction of IFRS 15, which imposes new standards on revenue recognition, could have a marked impact on the top line, but the iconic UK aerospace giant seems relaxed about the whole process. Shareholders will probably feel more optimistic than they did this time last year, as improvements being made to its business model could lead to stronger financial performance. Hold.
