A trio of Xaar (XAR) insiders have boosted their stakes in the ink-jet printer specialist a week after a warning about 2014's revenues wiped around 28 per cent off the group’s market value. Xaar has been forced to reduce prices on its ceramics product range in order to protect its market share, while activity in some other markets - notably labelling- disappointed during the first half.
Xaar’s chief executive Ian Dunwoodie grabbed another £100,000-worth of shares, which represents a resolute show of faith given that this is his last year at the helm. Finance director Alex Bevis also bumped-up his stake in the wake of the bad news but Ramon Borrell, a director within Xaar’s R&D segment, actually spent twice as much as his chief executive by snapping-up 40,000 shares at just over 500p each. The group’s R&D spend doubled to £16.4m over 2013, so perhaps Mr Borrell envisages a strong return on capital for the increased outlay.
