With shares in Patisserie (CAKE) more than 60 per cent up since last year's IPO, executive chairman Luke Johnson has sold a £12.6m stake in the company. Three other directors - chief executive Paul May, finance director Chris Marsh and non-exec James Horler - also sold stock worth a further £2.2m to satisfy "specific market demand for shares" in the owner of café chain Patisserie Valerie.

Mr Johnson remains the largest shareholder following the sale, having taken a controlling stake in the company in 2006 through Risk Capital, the private equity firm he co-founded with business partner Ben Redmond. Following last year's listing, a concert party comprising Mr Johnson, Mr Redmond, Risk Capital and Mr May held 50.2 per cent of the shares, a stake that has now fallen to 45.4 per cent.
