The co-founders of Asian Citrus Holdings (ACHL) last week dumped HK$200m (£16.6m) of shares in the typhoon-battered company. Through a holding company, former chief executive Tong Wang 'Tony' Chow and current vice-chairman Tong Hung 'Tommy' Wai sold the stake - equivalent to 14.3 per cent of the issued share capital - in an off-market deal to Changjiang Tyling Management. Changjiang’s co-owners: current Asian Citrus chief executive Ng Ong Lee and an unnamed third-party.
Following the deal, the co-founders now own just 5 per cent of the orange plantation group - equivalent to £5.9m at the current price. But it's difficult to know what those shares mean in broader valuation terms; a June release stated that citrus canker and crop disease would continue to "adversely influence the performance of the group's agricultural produce operations", pointing to continued uncertainty. To compound this, the company's broker, Cantor Fitzgerald, has kept its forecasts under review since Asian Citrus' crops started to suffer.
