Nottingham is the home of Games Workshop (GAW), the undisputed king of the fantasy tabletop gaming world. It is also where you will find many smaller gaming companies that have been created by some of its former employees. Warlord Games is one of the more successful smaller tabletop gaming companies that have lived in the shadow of Games Workshop. It was founded by John Stallard and Paul Sawyer in 2007. In July this year, Hornby (LSE:HRN) bought 25 per cent of the company with the option to buy the rest of it over the next few years.
Stallard, a former Games Workshop employee, who worked his way up through the company over a 24-year career, remains in charge of the day-to-day running of Warlord Games. His right-hand man is Chris Bostock, also a former Games Workshop employee, who joined in 2012 having been an early investor in the business. He looks after the financial and operational side.
Stallard is a proud tabletop war gamer and history buff. He is also a walking encyclopaedia on the gaming industry and has recently jointly published a book about it called Talking Miniatures.
