Tui Travel (TT.) has traded well over the summer and early winter bookings are also looking good. While there were still some patches of weakness at the group - France and Austria being noteworthy in this regard - overall the result was impressive. The performance adds further credence to the group’s strategy of focusing on higher-margin specialist holidays.

It looks like Tui may well have benefited from the troubles at rival Thomas Cook and attracted holiday makers spooked by Cooks financial woes. Although Cook has reported improving summer booking trends, Tui is well placed to benefit further in 2013.
