Shell chief to resign for ‘change in lifestyle’

Shell's positive first-quarter earnings announcement was tempered by the surprise announcement that its chief executive will resign next year

Royal Dutch Shell 's (RSDA) highly regarded chief executive, Peter Voser, has decided to retire next year. The surprise announcement came as Shell reported a strong set of first-quarter results that beat consensus expectations by a fifth.

Mr Voser has been at the helm since July 2009, when he was promoted from chief financial officer. The 54-year-old said it was simply time for a "change in my lifestyle", adding that he wants to spend more time with his family.
