TUI reliant on Western Europe

TUI Travel is to due next week to reveal the fall out from unrest in Egypt and competition woes in the Nordic region
May 6, 2014

Next week we will learn to what extent political unrest in Egypt and increasing competition in the Nordic region are impacting trading at TUI Travel (TT.). First-half profits are expected to be largely in line with last year, but weaknesses in Scandinavia could cost TUI £20m by the end of the financial year.

Timing differences could also play a part, with Easter falling into the second half in 2014. But strong performances in the UK and Germany are expected to offset this problem. Improvements in consumer confidence across western Europe have also helped deliver modest growth at TUI - although analysts fear this recovery trend has peaked for now.
