Lavendon Group's (LVD) chief executive Don Kenny has shelled out £179,722 in acquiring 106,774 shares in the tool hire business. The move is a vote of confidence in the group and follows a reassuring set of full-year results in which profits jumped 11 per cent to £39.3m.

Lavendon is certainly enjoying the benefits of a strengthening UK economy and booming construction sector. Rental revenues from the tool hire group's UK business grew 7 per cent to £111m during 2014. But its higher-margin Middle East business also steamed ahead, bagging £49.5m of revenues in the year, an 8 per cent increase.
