Shares in Cineworld (CINE) appear to have endured a bit of profit-taking since their solid half-year results but the numbers were good enough to prompt chairman Anthony Bloom to snap up more stock. A discretionary trust, of which Mr Bloom is one of the potential beneficiaries, purchased 50,000 ordinary shares at 591p. This was the price the shares reached after their H1 print but they have since fallen to 556p at the time of writing.
The purchase means the trust now owns 2,208,006 ordinary shares out of the 265.2m in issue. Mr Bloom, who is 75, joined the board in October 2004 as chairman having served as chairman of Cine-UK from when the business was founded in 1995.
The group is already well-established in the UK but managed a 10.5 per cent rise in box office revenues in the first half compared to the same period in 2014 and has plans for major expansions and refurbishments. The company also owns a Central & Eastern Europe and Israel-based business, which has a strong potential for growth.
