It's a long commute from Alliance Pharma's (APH) Wiltshire headquarters to its broker's office in Paternoster Square, but the group's chief executive, John Dawson, now has somewhere to stay when he visits the City, having bought a London flat with the £1.4m proceeds from his recent share sale.

But at 45p a share Mr Dawson didn't actually get the best deal, seeing as the shares traded above 50p before September's interim results announcement. Half-year numbers were impressive, but rising net debt and squeezed margins rattled investors, sending the share price down 3.4 per cent in response. That said, there are opportunities for the geographical expansion of several of Alliance's existing products, across nine more countries in Europe. It's also worth noting that Mr Dawson and his wife still own 12 per cent of the company between them.
