Shares in insurance specialist Charles Taylor (CTR) have risen by almost a quarter over the past 12 months. Perhaps this is the reason chief executive David Marock decided to sell 315,985 shares in the group - in order to bank those gains. The sale was struck at a share price of 269p, which generated £850,000 in total. In contrast, Joe Roach, chief executive of the group's US management services business, bought 60,000 shares at 268p a share. Mr Marock and Mr Roach now have beneficial interests amounting to 0.6 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively.

The group's management services and insurance support services businesses, which together accounted for 84 per cent of first-half profit, have been generating solid growth over the past 18 months. However, trading has been more difficult at the adjusting services division, which has suffered as a result of a benign complex claims environment.
