Ask why a mining group - specifically the Regent Pacific Group - has paid £2.3m for 25.3m shares in premature ejaculation specialist Plethora Solutions (PLE), and you'll find the answer lies with the company directors. Plethora chairman Jim Mellon holds a 15.2 per cent stake in Regent, while chief executive Jamie Gibson owns 4 per cent. What's more, Regent couldn't participate in Plethora's last equity fundraising, as the medical group was in a closed period ahead of its half-year results. Having now topped up its stake - at a price of 9p a share - Regent is Plethora's largest shareholder, owning 14 per cent of the company.

The share purchase was conditional on Plethora finalising a European licence agreement with specialty pharma group Recordati. The deal, which was finally signed off on 29 September, grants Recordati the rights to commercialise PSD50, Plethora's treatment for premature ejaculation, in Europe, Russia, Turkey and some parts of eastern Europe and north Africa.
