Just over one week after Ultra Electronics (ULE) announced a well-received acquisition designed to boost exposure to the buoyant electronics warfare market, chairman Douglas Caster and his wife sold a combined total of 451,188 shares at 1,878p each. The transaction, which saw the couple garner £8.47m, triggered a slight dip in the share price.

Investors appear to be bullish about Ultra Electronics' acquisitive strategy based on reducing reliance on areas of traditional military spending by branching into niche budding markets. The acquisition of San Diego-based Kratos Defense & Security Solutions for up to $265m (£174m) certainly lives up to this policy. The US business makes systems for warplanes and missiles, an area where spending is expected to rise in response to emerging threats from Russia and China.
Major customers in this space include the governments of Australia, Germany, the US and South Korea, and companies such as Boeing, Harris, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon.
