Last month, Victoria (VCP) bought Interfloor, the "UK market-leading manufacturer of carpet underlay and related accessories", for £65m. To finance the deal, the carpet maker instructed broker Cantor Fitzgerald to organise a series of placings, including two separate sales of 2.9m new shares at 1,230p, worth a combined £35.8m.

Victoria also announced it would place a further 711,035 shares privately "to satisfy significant institutional demand identified in response to the acquisition", and boost its working capital. That third fundraising round required approval from shareholders, who duly passed the resolution on 2 October. Four days later, half of that institutional demand came in the shape of a £4.5m purchase by the Business Growth Fund, whose regional director, Gavin Petken, also serves on Victoria's board.
Fellow non-executive director Andrew Harrison also bought 8,950 shares in the various placings, taking his stake to 35,906 shares. With Victoria’s shares now 7 per cent up on the placing price, Mr Harrison’s stake is worth £474,000.
