High-profile airline boss Willie Walsh must have faith in a renewed rally for International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) shares following the recent results. The British Airways and Iberia-owner suffered a share price drop on results day, even though adjusted operating profits jumped by two thirds - excluding the recent Aer Lingus purchase - and the group declared its first final dividend since the enlarged entity was formed in 2011.

Irish chief Mr Walsh has snapped up 50,000 shares worth roughly £270,000, presumably confident that the Aer Lingus purchase and low oil price can power earnings upward. Margins rose at each of its airlines last year, which suggests the dividend is not only sustainable but could even rise further.
A potential bump in the otherwise smooth runway could be higher charges at one of the group's key hubs, London City airport. Mr Walsh has threatened to quit the location if it becomes unprofitable.
