- Foreign Affairs Committee says the government is lagging on energy transition supply chain
- UK 'late to recognise' China's capture of the battery industry
The UK will keep losing out on energy transition investment without clearer goals from the government, a new report from a parliamentary committee has said. The government must also recognise there is a geopolitical battle to secure access to lithium, rare earths and other critical metals, the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee argued.
The report also said private companies involved in the electric vehicle (EV) industry needed “realistic targets and timeframes”, while for the country to hit net zero goals “immediate, decisive action” is needed.
