Barclays signals £10bn payout and restructuring

The languishing bank decides that aggressive corporate actions are needed to win the market round

Barclays' (BARC) annual results bucked the recent trend for the bank and generated a positive market reaction. This had less to do with the numbers themselves – profits before impairments were largely static at £8.4bn, with loans to customers also stuck fast at £203bn – and more with the first real statement of strategy from the management on how the bank will approach the next three years.
