Mobile banking and electronic payments software provider Monitise has been granted a patent for its virtual payment card system.

The software acts like a virtual pre-paid card for a fixed amount of money or for a fixed time period and allows users to use their mobile devices to make purchases. Monitise also revealed it has a £78m order book, with £14m to be recognised in 2012.
