There has been a noticeable silence since online spread-betting specialist IG (IGG) indicated a £30m provision to cover goodwill and client losses associated with the sudden appreciation in the Swiss franc. However, initial estimates have already been reduced by analysts, with a second-quarter hit of nearer £15m now expected.
Trading in the UK remains solid, but mainland Europe remains more of a worry, with last year's revenue flat despite a 9 per cent increase in customers. The Swiss franc saga sent the share price tumbling at the time, and it has fallen further since to trade at 18 times forecast earnings for the year to May, although this falls to 15 times on estimates for 2016. Meanwhile, non-executive director Stephen Hill, previously chief executive of the Financial Times Group, sold 42,000 shares at 736p on 29 January, although he still holds over 79,000 shares.
