Breedon directors pile in

A trio of directors have boosted their holdings in Breedon Aggregates as the commercial backdrop for the group steadily improves.
August 1, 2014

Prospects are on the up for Breedon Aggregates (BREE) as large-scale construction projects start to pick-up throughout the UK – not just in London and the South-East. Little wonder then that a trio of insiders - including chief executive Simon Vivian and chairman Peter Tom - picked up another 1.1m shares in aggregate for a total outlay of £429,000.

Their confidence in Breedon’s long-term prospects looks justified by the existing building short-fall in the UK housing market, combined with an expected upsurge in UK infrastructure activity. In fact, trading is already picking up: the Leicestershire-based firm recently revealed that it sold almost a third more aggregates in the first half than last year. The management team now intends to build capacity by identifying suitable takeover targets, including businesses that need to be offloaded by global sector giants Lafarge and Holcim if their proposed merger goes ahead. Mr Tom has already overseen a series of takeovers since reforming the business with the acquisition of the Ennstone group back in 2010.
