Brooks Macdonald (BRK) is benefiting handsomely from the rising popularity of discretionary wealth management, which has propelled the share price up by a fifth over the past 12 months. It seems some on the wealth manager's board are seeking to bank some of those gains. Chief investment officer Richard Spencer has sold 550,000 in shares at 1,700p, while non-executive director Simon Wombwell disposed of 35,000 shares for the same amount. Collectively, the sale represents around 4.3 per cent of the group's issued share capital. Mr Spencer has held a substantial stake in Brooks since its inception in 1991, but said he wished to diversify his "personal financial risk profile".

The Aim-traded wealth manager has reaped the rewards of investors increasingly choosing to hand over management of their funds, rather than signing off day-to-day investment decisions. This is because discretionary fund management clients tend to be more 'sticky', thus giving Brooks greater revenue visibility.
