Just Eat drops Benelux, market shrugs

Just days after half-year results, the online takeaway group has ditched its Benelux business
August 2, 2016

Just a matter of days after a half-year results statement that declared all of its European outposts had turned a profit, Just Eat (JE.) announced the sale of its Benelux business. Chief executive David Buttress did say at the time that he was "never satisfied" with being the second-largest player in any market, something the company has been fighting in the region for some time.

The company has sold its operation there to Takeaway.com for an enterprise value of €22.5m (£19m), payable in cash. Mr Buttress insisted that Just Eat remained the leader in each of its 12 remaining markets.
