How to use the new IC Android app

1) Download the app for free onto your Android phone from Google Play, either via your device or from this address: http://tinyurl.com/bozpdca. You'll be asked to log-in or register the first time you use it. Current users of the IC site will be able to use their existing log-in details, otherwise all you'll need to do is provide your email address and choose a password.

2) After logging in for the first time, you'll be given the option to either go to the 'Market Movers' page - which shows you the day's top 10 risers and fallers on the FTSE 350 - or tap 'Add Securities' to start setting up a personalised watchlist.

3) If you tap the 'Add Securities' button, you'll be taken to a search page where you can select the stocks you wish to add. Currently this is limited to 20 at any one time, but we'll be upgrading this very soon. Once you've set up a watchlist you can navigate back to it by tapping the 'My Watchlist' tab on the pop-up navigation at the bottom of the screen, where you'll be able to add or remove securities from your list. Alternatively, you can go to the search page via the magnifying glass icon, found at the bottom right of the screen.

4) On any of the company list views - which also includes a 'Most Viewed' tab so you can see what other investors are looking at - you'll be able to scroll sideways through basic fundamental data by swiping the screen right. If you tap on the company name, you'll also be able to access more detailed company tearsheets, which include adjustable price graphs, broker views and forecasts, the latest IC headlines, and an up-to-date IC recommendation on each company. If you tap the 'Last IC View' box, you'll be able to read our most recent investment conclusion in a pop-up window. At the top of the tear sheet, in the red strip, there is a '+' or 'x' icon (depending on whether or not the company is on your watch list) that you can tap to add or remove the share.

5) For anyone taking a more macro perspective, we've also included a 'Markets' data page, which contains an extensive range of indices, currencies and commodities, essential stuff for the growing legion of ETF investors out there. As well as the latest prices and one-day change, you can tap on each instrument to see a one-year price chart.

6) Finally, we've included an 'Analysis' selection for a broad selection of full length articles from some of our best writers, including economics views from Chris Dillow, personal finance advice from Moira O'Neill, and stories from the Chronic Investor Blog.
