Edgar buys after a torrid period for Cape

Cape issued a profit warning and incurred losses but that didn't deter Tim Edgar from purchasing more shares
September 7, 2012, Jonas Crosland and Robert Ansted

Following Cape's half-year results, chairman Tim Edgar purchased 12,000 shares in the oil and gas engineering services business, taking his total holding to a still modest 54,148 shares. The results reported on a torrid period for the business during which it lost chief executive Martin May, took a £14m hit on losses from the Arzew LNG project in Algeria and issued a withering profit warning after problems within its previously fast-growing Asia Pacific operations.

Cape's share price enjoyed a fillip after the results were published, presumably on relief that no more serious issues had come to light during the early weeks of new chief executive Joe Oatley’s leadership. Indeed, investors were cheered by the retention of the half-year dividend at 4.5p and a rise in the forward order book from £830m to £920m during the first half of the year. The Asia Pacific business is undergoing a comprehensive business review.

Holland sells as Telford thrives

Telford Homes non-executive director David Holland has sold 50,000 shares at 115p each, but the 71-year-old former non-executive chairman still holds 1.94 per cent of the issued share capital, worth £958,000. Telford Homes itself continues to trade strongly, with its emphasis on inner London paying off well. Indeed, profits in the first quarter exceeded total profits for the whole of the previous year, and the group remains on target to meet forecasts of £8m pre-tax profits. And its banks seem happy too, because it recently succeeded in increasing its corporate loan facility by £20m to £90m. Since signing the three-and-a-half-year facility in March last year, other debts across the group have been reduced significantly.
