Homewares retailer Dunelm (DNLM) is going from strength to strength at a time when many of its peers are scaling back. So far this financial year, it has opened 13 new stores and, in the third quarter, revenue grew 15 per cent to £178m. Three stores were opened in the past three months, when like-for-like sales grew at a healthy 5 per cent.

And despite an extended sale period and price investment to accelerate clearance of discontinued merchandise, gross margins for the quarter are believed to have improved by 20 basis points compared with the same period last year.
