A summary of key company announcements expected in the coming week
September 20, 2013

Welcome to the week ahead, our summary of the forthcoming key company announcements. Companies are no longer obliged to notify the London Stock Exchange (LSE) of results and trading updates, so this list does not claim to be comprehensive. You can read company announcements at http://announce.ft.com and our daily online news summaries record all key company announcements and business press headlines.

Monday 23 September

Interims: AG Barr, Toumaz

Finals: Finsbury Food, Haynes Publishing

Trading statements: Aberdeen Asset Management, Dairy Crest

AGMs: Park Group, Vectura

EGM: International Public Partnerships

When AG Barr (BAG) - which makes such soft drinks as Irn-Bru and Rockstar - reports half-year results on Monday, investors can expect plenty of detail about its new Milton Keynes manufacturing facility. The first phase of the project has come in on budget and one month ahead of schedule, and should increase efficiency and cut costs, thanks to state-of-the art machinery and the close proximity to major suppliers. Meanwhile, sales are expected to be 4.9 per cent ahead of last year, boosted by 10 per cent revenue growth in the second quarter, with demand helped along by recent warm weather. Broker Canaccord Genuity expects pre-tax profit of £36.7m for the full year, giving EPS of 24.2p (from £34.9m and 24.7p in 2013). At 546p, that leaves the shares rated on 23 times forecast earnings; a premium rating for the sector. Given the group's decent returns and strong track record, that premium rating looks well-deserved - but it doesn't leave much room for upside, either. Hold.

Tuesday 24 September

Interims: Augean, Cupid, Dolphin Capital, ReThink

Finals: Albemarle & Bond, Close Brothers, CVS, Hargreaves Services, Netcall

Trading statements: Dolphin Capital, Euromoney Institutional Investor

AGMs: Ashcourt Rowan, City of London Group, Sirius Minerals, Surface Transforms, Victoria

Economics: British Bankers' Association house purchase loans data

Albemarle & Bond (ABM) will announce full-year results on Tuesday and the pawnbroker has already warned that a significant decline in gold prices will mean that profits for the year will be below earlier expectations. Moreover, the core pawn-broking business has come under pressure from increased competition and a steady decline in the amount of gold jewellery in circulation. Revenue has also suffered as new store openings has slowed. Worries about possible regulatory action - to cap the high interest rates charged by Albemarle's high street competitors on short-term loans - won't help sentiment, either. Broker Shore Capital has downgraded its forecasts by 25 per cent and now expects pre-tax profit for 2013 of £8.8m, giving EPS of 12p. At 130p, Albemarle's shares have fallen about 10 per cent since we suggested exiting the stock last month and, given the gloomy outlook, we see no reason to change that view. Sell.
