Mr Ashley faced a grilling from MPs about the working conditions at his company, predominantly within the Shirebrook distribution centre from which allegations had emerged that staff were effectively being paid below the minimum wage due to the time they had to spend on security searches at the end of their shifts.
The HM Revenue & Customs was investigating this issue, the founder said, but the company had increased pay as a remedy to the issue.
