Greg Fitzgerald has been chief executive of Bovis Homes (BVS) for a little over two months, but took no time in nailing his colours to the mast by purchasing 215,000 shares in the troubled housebuilder at 919.7p a share. Bovis has been much in the news after the resignation of former boss David Ritchie and the rejection of bids from both Galliford Try (GFRD) and Redrow (RDW).

Operational issues that have resulted in a consistent sub-sector return on capital prompted Bovis to announce in February that its rate of production is to be slowed, with completion volumes this year expected to be 10-15 per cent down on 2016 before returning to normal in 2018. On the land front, the plan is to maintain an underlying four-year consented land bank, with nearly all the required land for 2018 already owned and with planning consent.
