The current financial year is off to a good start for food delivery company Just Eat (JE.). Sales in the first quarter were up by nearly half to £177m, thanks in part to customers spending more per order. In the UK, the number of orders placed increased by a quarter to 29.7m, 1.4m of which came from the now-completed acquisition of Hungryhouse. A strong performance from SkipTheDishes in Canada contributed to the 46 per cent jump in international orders to 21.9m.

Management expects this positive momentum from the first quarter to continue through the remainder of the financial year, leading to group sales of between £660m and £700m by the full year with around £165m to £185m in underlying cash profits, compared with £546m in revenue and £164m in cash profits in FY2017. This optimism could be why Sarah Plumb, the wife of chief executive Peter Plumb, purchased 12,314 shares at 806p each.
