U&I Group (UAI) deputy chief executive Richard Upton has been steadily increasing his shareholding in the property development company, buying 17,156 shares at 204p and taking his total holding to 3.28m shares.
And why not, given that the group continues to deliver impressive gains? Trading in the first half is typically weaker than the second half, and trading profits in the year to February 2019 have been maintained at £45m-£50m, and £45m-£55m for the following year, after just £12.8m in the six months to August 2018.
U&I is notably adept at identifying targets with the potential to generate revenue through gaining planning consent, and secured a resolution to grant planning consent on a joint venture mixed-use scheme in Kensington and Chelsea. The group also owns six shopping centres, and while this sub-sector remains under pressure, occupancy remains high at 98 per cent.
And while not part of the core business, U&I recently acquired planning approval for its Hendy wind farm, which will allow it to achieve its £5m-£7m gain on the scheme.
