We’ve recently witnessed a resurgence in private equity involvement in the listed sphere, but Neil Woodford is doubtless preoccupied with other considerations. Over a few days, the under-fire asset manager slashed the holding of Woodford Investment Management in Oakley Capital Investments (OCI) from 19.4 per cent to below the 5 per cent mark.

Regardless of the divestment, shares in Oakley Capital have held up, gaining 16.3 per cent over the past three months. Market sentiment would have been helped by news that the private equity investor had realised €40m (£35.8m) at the end of May, by selling down part of its stake in Inspired, an independent schools group. It also represented good news for the fund manager, who hived off his holding shortly afterwards, possibly to meet redemption demands on his Equity Income fund.
