Catering giant Compass has had a good first half thanks to continued strong growth in the US and emerging markets, which make up about two-thirds of its business.

Organic US revenue growth was 7 per cent, while the 'fast-growing and emerging markets' division reported a 12 per cent organic rise. Europe and Japan remain sluggish, but cost-cutting is helping to mitigate this.
Broker Investec nudged up its full-year EPS forecast to 42p (from 39p in 2011).
