Games Workshop stars but uncertainty still shadows the UK stock market

The FTSE All Share opened impressively on Monday but earnings forecast momentum has still to return to the UK market

  • Our screen looks at earnings growth and analysts' earnings upgrade momentum as well as just share price momentum.
  • FTSE All Share results don't reflect a surge in confidence for UK stocks across the board.
  • Games Workshop (GAW) has proven its mettle this year, achieving solid earnings upgrade momentum, and it scores full marks in this week’s screen. Its performance even had Phil Oakley kicking himself for selling it earlier in the year and now Games Workshop is back in his UK Quality Shares fantasy portfolio.
  • The other FTSE All Share company that scores full marks on our momentum screen is publisher Future (FUTR), which has had success with its digital content offering and has found cost savings in the pandemic.
  • Uncertainty is still the order of the day, with many companies failing on the outlook for future earnings growth over one or two years. One share to be wary of from these results is KAZ Minerals (KAZ) which is in the midst of an attempt to take it private.
